Tomorrow is National S'mores Day!!!!

Don't forget, tomorrow is National S'mores Day and there is no better way to celebrate the occasion than to gather around the bonfire with friends and family to make the classic summer treat! Made from the delicious combination of pure Hershey's® milk chocolate, crisp graham crackers and toasted marshmallows, S'mores have brought families together around the fire since the recipe was first published in the Girl Scouts handbook in 1927.

Bring it On! National S'mores Day August 10!

If it doesn't rain in Arkansas soon lifting the burn bans I may have to make these in my microwave but make them I will!!!!

National S'mores Day is August 10, and there is no better way to celebrate the occasion than to gather around the bonfire with friends and family to make the classic summer treat! Made from the delicious combination of pure Hershey's® milk chocolate, crisp graham crackers and toasted marshmallows, S'mores have brought families together around the fire since the recipe was first published in the Girl Scouts handbook in 1927.

"It's time for National S'mores Day, which means family fun, campfire stories and gooey S'mores," said Anna Lingeris, spokesperson for The Hershey Company. "The quintessential combination of Hershey's milk chocolate, graham crackers and toasted marshmallows sweetens any summer day and creates memories that will last a lifetime."
It's easy to celebrate this sweet holiday together with family and friends – all you need are S'mores! Whether on vacation or closer to home, here are some simple ways to bring your celebration to life:
  • Family Time with S'mores – Make National S'mores Day a family affair by getting everyone involved. Little ones can be in charge of assembling the graham crackers and Hershey's milk chocolate, while adults and older children take care of toasting the marshmallows. Once the S'mores are ready, dig in and enjoy this tasty treat together.
  • Grilled S'mores – For a fun new way to enjoy S'mores, try making them on the grill! Simply wrap S'mores in aluminum foil and place on a medium-hot grill and cook 1 to 2 minutes on each side. When you're done, you'll have S'mores that are grilled to perfection.
  • Summer Vacation S'mores – S'mores aren't only for camping! Many hotel chains offer fire pits or grilling areas which are perfect for making S'mores to help sweeten your trip and create a new family tradition. Staying home? You can also build S'mores at the park or playground in the designated picnic or grilling area.
  • Fire up the Fire Pit – Can't get out to a campground? No problem! Make an impromptu camp fire setting at home over your backyard fire pit. You can even use real sticks to roast your marshmallows to make yourself feel like you're immersed in the great outdoors.
  • Party with S'mores – Celebrate the occasion by bringing S'mores ingredients to an upcoming summer gathering! Guests will love making gooey S'mores and you'll be the hit of the party.

Per Bankrate: Mortgage Closing Costs Dropped Seven Percent Over Past Year

According to Bankrate, the average cost to close on a mortgage in the United States dropped seven percent over the past year to $3,754, according to Bankrate.com's (NYSE: RATE) eighth annual closing costs survey, which was released today. Title insurance and other third-party fees fell 12 percent from 2011, while origination fees edged down one percent.

"This is the second year in which lenders are required to estimate third-party fees within 10 percent of the final cost. It seems like they're getting more accurate, which helps explain the sharp decrease in these fees over the past year," said Greg McBride, CFA, Bankrate.com's senior financial analyst. "The main lesson of this survey for consumers is to shop around for at least three different estimates. While no one is going to move to a new state just because closing costs are lower, it's important for people to realize that there is variation even within their neighborhood, and that they can save by being an educated consumer."

For the third straight year, New York State has the nation's most expensive closing costs at an average of $5,435. The next most expensive states are TexasPennsylvaniaFlorida and Oklahoma. The least expensive state is Missouri ($3,006 on average), which is joined by KansasColoradoIowa andArkansas among the five cheapest states.

To view the entire survey with results from all 50 states and the District of Columbia, click here:http://www.bankrate.com/finance/mortgages/2012-closing-costs/closing-costs-by-state.aspx.

Bankrate surveyed up to 10 lenders in all 50 states plus the District of Columbia in June 2012. Researchers obtained online good faith estimates for a $200,000 mortgage to buy a single-family home with a 20 percent down payment. Costs include fees charged by lenders, as well as third-party fees for services such as appraisals and title insurance. The survey excludes taxes, property insurance, association fees, interest and other prepaid items.

Creating a Homework Study Zone

Getting back into study mode can be tough after a long, fun summer. So, grab a highlighter and take note of these easy ideas for finding and creating the perfect homework space for back to school success thanks to Lifetime Products.

  1. Designated space. Designate a set place in your home for your child to study. For younger children, make the space someplace you can easily supervise the work and be readily available to answer questions. For older children, their bedroom is an ideal location because it gives them a quiet place to focus.
  2. Table it. Classrooms have desks and chairs instead of couches and beds to keep students alert. The same should hold true at home. Make sure your child has a designated desk or table to use for studying and doing homework.  If you don't have the space for a desk, a small folding table such as a Lifetime Personal Table that adjusts in height is the perfect size for a small student desk and it can easily be folded and stored on the weekends when homework is out of sight.
  3. Table space. Making sure your child has a desk or table is important. But, it also needs to be the appropriate size. Middle school and high school students often have multiple items in use at the same time.
  4. Light bright. Your child's homework space should be well-lit to provide good reading light, as well as to keep your child alert while studying. Placing your child's desk near a window for natural lighting also will help brighten his or her homework mood.
  5. Shhh. Study halls require students to be quiet while studying and so should you. Keep your child's homework space free from noise distractions. Kids will complain, but that means no TV, no radio, no iPods, no video games, no cell phones, etc. Parents and other siblings should also abide by this rule and be quiet in and around the homework space.
